Event Overview
Bridging Research and Practice in Arabic Language Education
Research findings in Arabic language education provide insights that support effective teaching and learning practices.
As part of QFI’s continued support of research-informed teaching, QFI, in partnership with the University of Oxford, welcomes all attendees to this 2025 Forum. As a thought leader in Arabic language education in schools, QFI established this Forum to connect research with classroom realities and empower educators through collaboration and innovation. This Forum will contribute to advancing the value of teaching and learning Arabic as a global language in schools.
Building on momentum from the 2024 Forum, this year's Forum will once again bring together educators and researchers from across the Arabic language teaching community to bridge the gap between research and classroom practice. Attendees will experience the benefits of putting evidence-informed instruction into practice, exploring how academic insights can directly inform and improve teaching and learning in diverse Arabic classroom settings. In addition, attendees will better understand the advantages of using classroom case studies to enrich research as academics learn from educators' expertise.
Research Behind the Forum
The 2024 Forum was born out of an urgent need identified by a comprehensive scoping review of existing research on teaching and learning Arabic as an additional language (AL2), conducted by the University of Oxford and supported by QFI.
This year, attendees will continue to engage with the evolving ORA database to deepen their understanding of the AL2 research landscape.
The 2025 Forum will pinpoint the gaps within the relationship between research and practice, and emphasize how both parties can benefit from a better understanding of each area. Fostering this collaborative approach will encourage educators and researchers to contribute to this continuum through collective, practice-based research.
This year’s program will focus on three core areas:
The Study of Arabic Language Programs (SALP)
Sharing preliminary findings and explore how Arabic is taught at the school level across different geographies.
Exploring Research on Motivation
Presenting a recently completed systematic review, building on the broader Scoping Review, and unveiling an updated research database.
Connecting Research and Practice
Highlighting the benefits of collaboration between educators and researchers. Specifically, how research can inform and transform classroom instruction, and how insights from classrooms can shape and strengthen future research.
