Building the research foundation for teaching Arabic in schools.
In a significant move, QFI established the Research and Evidence Department, a clear testament to our commitment to integrating evidence-based practices into our work on Arabic language education in schools.
Recognizing the dearth of research on Arabic teaching and learning at the primary and secondary levels, the department set an agenda to increase the availability of independent research to apply to the Arabic classroom, inform our work to enhance the teaching and learning of Arabic, and measure our impact through monitoring and evaluation.
We believe establishing this department is a crucial step toward ensuring that all our stakeholders are not only well-informed, but also actively involved in our efforts to bring theory into practice in the classroom.
In 2023, the department launched its agenda by actively supporting and disseminating research, generating actionable recommendations and insights in the following areas:
- Home and host language acquisition for newcomers
- Teaching Arabic as a global language
- Arabic dual-language immersion
Throughout the year, QFI supported research at institutions, such as the American Councils for International Education, Adelphi University, Refugee Education UK, University of Leeds, Oxford University, Washington University in St. Louis, and Maynooth University.
Each institution’s contribution expanded the availability of literature in numerous academic journals and thought leadership at conferences and seminars.
